I love what shows beneath the surface of the water. The imaginary becomes almost like a painting – so dreamlike in nature. It’s a beautiful feeling to be able to witness a surreal moment in waking life.
I enjoy working with all people, but especially the feminine. I want to recognize our empowerment, I want to help someone who’s narrative is “I’m really bad in front of the camera” become “wow I had no idea I could look this way” and from that stripped down, raw image, find a self acceptance that can take so much work to locate in this modern day society riddled with comparison.
I was a late bloomer. Late to learn how to swim and still a bit of a dunce when it comes to charging through waves and staying afloat. That’s why I love this work. It challenges me and it challenges my subjects and the result is always worth it. This artwork is multifaceted – it salutes the feminine, it honors our landscapes and it inspires a childlike wonder.
My goal for these images is to remind people of what water means to us. The beauty that lies underneath its surface. The dreamlike, artful state we can embody when we release ourselves to it – and motivate people to value and respect our rivers and our oceans and to not take them for granted. To not take ourselves and our little every day feats for granted. To move one step closer towards self-love and love for our natural surroundings.
